Myron and Madge Bradley

Tracking and Recording the Family History

Myron Bradley (1915 - 1979)

Myron and Madge Bradley, 1962 Myron Bradley was born in Maumee, Ohio, in 1915, the son of Fred Bradley and Matilda Schloz Bradley. Fred Bradley was very involved in Toledo politics during the 1920's and 1930's. Myron's grandfather, A.J. Bradley, was mayor of Whitehouse, Ohio, several times.

Myron married Madge Reeves in 1939; they had one child, Constance (Connie.) After he retired from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, he and Madge moved to Murray, Kentucky.

Myron described the genesis of his interest in genealogy in the preface to "Eber Bradley (1761 - 1841) and Some Relatives," which he self-published in 1977:

"In the summer of 1932, my father, Fred Bradley, and I were visiting his father, A.J. Bradley, in Whitehouse, Ohio. Walking through the barn, grandfather noticed a cardboard box full of family papers, leafed into a few of them, and asked if I wanted them. Not really interested, at sixteen, but throroughly drilled in politeness to my elders, I said yes and thank you."

"In 1956, after marriage, our daughter, and many transfers, my wife Madge and I began copying the old letters as time permitted. Living in Arlington, Virginia, we visited the National Archives, Library of Congress, DAR Library, and the National Genealogical Society trying to piece together the Who?s Who of the many names in the letters...."

In 1978 Myron gave these family papers to the Bowling Green State University Library (Center for Archival Collections), in Bowling Green, Ohio. A detailed listing of these "Bradley Family Papers" is available at http://www.bgsu.edu/colleges/library/cac/ms0044.html

Myron died in Murray, Kentucky, in 1979.
